Hello, I were just making a thread in the Test Forum.
I edited the thread around 5 times or so but when I got to the sixth time I got this message.

vBulletin Message
The administrator has specified that you can only edit messages for 5 minutes after you have posted. This limit has expired, so you must contact the administrator to make alterations on your message.

That's a totally useless limit and I don't like it.
Would you consider to remove it or do you find it usefull?
I'm sure your didn't add it yourself. It comes when the board is installed.

Thank you :)

Yes, I would agree that it would be good to change the limit. Often times, I'll post and then think of something later, when I'll go back and add it to my original post. The way it is now, you have to post again which makes things all the messier.

Yes, the setting that is set now, is the software default.

I don't think prolongering the edit enabled minutes is a good thing

it's only meant for correction of posted material

it shouldn't be more than 5 minutes, because we need to have a clear insight in who posted what and who replied to it and how it was written

I think it should be somewhat uneditable, so 5 min is ok for me

imagine a guy posting an opinion, have everybody commenting on it and after a day he writes something else altogether

and maybe that happens in the offers and requests forum, this editing thing could disturb some people, if it was misused

somebody starts a bid for a logo at $100 and has everybody drawn to it and after he gets 10 propositions changes it to $10 and says it was like that from the start, imagine the trouble

just thinking out loud

good luck

That is what I was thinking as well, I was very skeptical about changing it, I am changing it back, because the reason you provided is very valid indeed and could hurt some company's business.

Voice your opinion here..

can you set it to only do it in the offers/request forum? or is it an all or nothing kinda thing

if you do have this no edits after 5 minutes thing, hope you don't punish those who double post :)

The setting seems to be global.

It won't be long until we upgrade to vBulletin 3, so maybe that has some extra options for that instance.

If not, I will try to come up with something else :)
