Although I'm not a Mac/Apple fan, they're rather innovative. Creating such technologies as Firewire.

It's one of the best logos ever. I think it's one of the icons of the twentieth century. Apple rules. I'm not sure what is it about them, but they create stuff others can't even dream about. If you take a look at their oldest rival, MS, it's just copy, copy, steal, copy, take, copy and in recent years buy, buy, buy. Guys at Apple are number one, they rule, besides fruit is good for you.

Besides the whole OS2 thing with IBM where else did MSFT 'copy' and to an extent steal.
Microsoft is for sure more powerful, succesful and today has become a very very common household name.
But anyways back on the subject, the Apple/Mac logo is/was a very good idea. People will associate apples with Mac or atleast should and anything that is associated with another very common things (in this case, apples) is a grand idea indeed.
Note: I may be biased towards MSFT as I hold a fair amount of stock in them that has split God know's how many times..

Never mind Interactive, we all have our favorites. We will not hold it against you. It's like cars, some like Porsche, others love Ferrari.

Agreed. If contiuned any farther, this will only lead to a stalemate arguement. It's like those Intel/AMD battles. They can get ugly.

I used Macs for a while when I was in a graphical design shop. Overall, I didn't mind switching back to a PC :)
Happy birthday anyway though. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago.

Ahh come on. Even though eMachines suck, get one of their new laptops (which they don't even make it) that is running the new Athlon64 :D.

They have a huge problem, they don't know how to put a decent power supply in their machines that actually works for more then 6 months. Just about as bad as Compaq and their laptops..

I like the mac.
Not nearly as popular as it once was though.
I personally do think that MS stole something that was really great in the original MacOS, made it horrible and charged people more money for it and made a fortune.
I find it amazing that MS is hell bent to stop people for pirating its software when in reality virtually every piece of software MS sells was 'legally' pirated from someone else.

Actually, that's not where I got my name. I got my name from many generations before me. They started it. (Almost forgot to mention, my last name is Wise.) lol But yes, I suppose it holds characteristically true, as well.

Macs became popular back in the day because most all schools had them.
If they would run software that ran on windows, they really wouldn't be a whole lot different than the PC.
I used to love the old mac classics. They were great machines an looked way cool.

I've never had anything against macs. I actually want to own one but I can't afford to buy one.
If someone lets me borrow their powerbook I may change my mind :)

That's really the biggest problem with the Mac anymore. Not much software is available.

Yeah, and it's basically impossible to upgrade.
If more companies made stuff for Macs then it'd be a lot easier. I think they should come up with something that'll make it easier to code for a Mac. Meaning that a company can program a game/program and then just change a few minor things and poof, it works on a Mac!

The problem is that Apple refuses to cooperate to allow that to happen.
I think they're afraid after what Microsoft did to them...

For me, it's exactly the opposite. It's most convenient. It has a fair amount of the latest software, as far as I know. It has everything I need, anyhow. It has great use as a server (much better than any Windows, in my opinion, and since it's Unix-based, that should say something right there). I admit, it doesn't have a whole lot of games that I know of, but I'm not a gamer anyway, so that doesn't bother me. Big gamers are definitely better off with a Windows PC.

yeah if you game then a mac is not for you but for doing work or even server related stuff they are good machines.
I think I would like to own a mac laptop because I wouldn't even play games on a laptop anyways. However I don't have the moeny so I don't need to worry about learning how to use one for a while :p

I wouldnt mind having one of those 17" powerbooks...
Not that I can afford it right now though ;)

June 27th, 2004, 07:14 PM
I think 17" is too big for a laptop to be portable for me personally. I think 15" is a good enough size. However if it was mainly staying in my house, I would prefer the largest size.
Don't they make a 12" notebook? That would be sweet to carry around, wouldn't be annoying to be lugging around

They do make a 12".
If you've ever seen the commercial for the powerbook, Ming Yao (the basketball player, approx 7' tall) has a 12" powerbook and is sitting on the plane next to Mini Me (the midget from Austin Powers) who has a 17" powerbook.
It's a classic commercial IMHO.

yeah but firssssst of all it's "little people" not midget :) But yeah, that commercial is a classic. It was a great commercial and is still engraved in my mind. If I never had saw that I doubt I would even care so much about the 12" powerbooks. Good advertising can work wonders :), that commercial probaly pushed a lot of interest and sales.
