The trick is to hit the penguin at a low point in the fall. This way, he skids across the bottom. If you wack the penguin too high up, he just comes down and sticks to the ground. Goodness! This is adictive.

If you think about it from a physics point of view (lol) for the maximum distance, you need to project the penguin at an angle of 45 degrees to the ground. That way the parabolic motion of the penguin will propell him the furthest and he will bounce more. However getting just the right angle is pretty much hit and miss, lol

I was going to say something to that effect earlier, but I refrained in fear of sounding too nerdy. :p You are right, to a point. A trajectory of 45 degrees would create maximum distance before landing (assuming there's no wind, lol). However, since the penguin would stick directly in the ground, it would not go farther than where it initially landed. However, at a lower trajectory (exact range unknown), it will slide. In order for the penguin to travel farthest when launched at 45 degrees, its point of touchdown would have to be beyond the final point of sliding at any angle. We know by experience, however, that this is not the case. Therefore, 45 degrees is not the optimal launch trajectory for this game.
