Matt

Hi Guys,
As some of you may have noticed, we have extended the deadline for this month's contest to end on June 30, 2004. We figured this change would be necessary and would only be fair due to our server issues during the time frame.
Thanks.

Just kidding of course... but why five days to announce 'em? Just so you can look over their posts or something?

The community will get to vote as well. We would like to get some time to finalize the decisions and announce the winners :)

hmm interesting, is the winner of the community vote the winner? Or will the staff put in their say as well?

I think it's probably mainly what the staff thinks. But who knows? heh

The community's opinion will account for 60% of the votes. The staff will have input as well. All posts will be reviewed and the amounts of points accumulated, so it should be pretty fair.

thank you, and I have a question about this contest, so since htey were on a daily basis that mean you only marked those that were in the time frame of the contest and not ones before right?

MOST people think that the only "quality" posts are from people who ANSWER. This is NOT the case. If it is, that's a forum I don't ever want to be in.
Posts where a question is asked is just as, if not more important than an answer post. The fact is that questions ALLOW for answers, and without questions, answers wouldn't exist. They both create the ability for one or more people to LEARN, and that's the entire point to forums like this one.
I have no idea what "point system" Matt has come up with, and it's not my business (he's the admin, not me). However, from MY perspective, questions are ABSOLUTELY just as important as answers.
In other words, forums are good NOT just based on the answers the members give, but by the questions those same members ask.
Cheers,
Chris

I agree with you on this one WorldBuilder. You can have a forum without questions.. but it'd just be a slower version of a chat room. And for a webmasters board, that'd be worthless, wouldn't it?

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that believes that ;)

Listen...
EVERYONE, no matter how good they are at something was a newbie at that very thing once. I am GREAT at certain things, as I know each of you are at something, too. Everyone has their niche. However, NO ONE was born knowing what they know. They sucked at it once.
I know XHTML and CSS pretty well. Ask me a question on php, Flash, or Photoshop and all I can do is stare at you like a dumbass. So am I an idiot? No.
Are you an idiot because there is something you don't know? No.
Questions being ASKED are critical to an online forum, and the world as a whole. Believe me, if all the "smartasses" on Earth suddenly realized that they aren't as bright as they thought and started being more humble, asking questions and LEARNING, the world would be a MUCH better place.
Online forums attempt to do just that: Make the world (or at least a small part of it's population) better.
I'm not here to TEACH. I'm not here to LEARN. I'm here to do BOTH.
In every forum, there are those who know NOTHING about any topic in the forum. We could get Joe Schmo in here who has never made a page in his life and doesn't know a thing about ANY subject. But you know what? If WE as a collective community teach Joe many different things (because he asks about it all), then as time goes by and he learns it all, then low and behold, he will be teaching others before you know it...

Hehe, that's one of the reasons I like forums so much. :D I learned quite a bit from them. Including about 95% of my SEO knowledge. (the rest from http://www.internet-marketing-research.net :D)
You know, maybe I should go start a thread about what you are good at/know. Happened at another forum and it helped people a little bit because people knew who knew what. lol

Word, World Builder. I knew almost nothing about HTML and coding and the most part of the knowlege of the computers before I joined OptiGamer. Even though it's a gaming site, I used a little bit of coding every once-in-a-while, and became a moderator , and now I'm the adminof my own site that I am building all due to forums.
