First make a big document like 1000x1000

Filter > render > lens flare

experiment with the different kinds

then filter > artistic > fresco

experiment with settings here, just make the lens flare looks like a big bloated cell under a microscope :)

then filter > stylize > extrude

select pyramids, 1st box = 30 (default), 2nd box = 225, then apply

apply again



and now you should have a nice spiky image like this

try it out let's see some results. It's a fairly nice looking tutorial and it is extremely easy.

I don't know what you'll ever do with the designs though - perhaps tile them?

those 2 images undearth are the spikes. I usually just take a portion and make it into something,

Here's a guy who used it as well

I usualy just use that technique mainly for sigs however.
