Well thats true that meta tags are about to go but still one search engine is offering them so its not bad to use them.

Yea big SE's dont use meta tags anymore but they are good to have just incase

Meta-tags are not dead - Danny's article was written almost 3 years ago, and things have changed since.

Yahoo! does use the meta-tags for ranking purposes, and although it is difficult to prove if Google do, Google does like to write up the meta-description in the search results in association with your site pages.

So, no, meta-tags are definitely not dead - but their purpose has distinctly changed over the past 3 years.

yes meta tags are not dead . reason is internet gaints like google/yahoo are still using meta tags . if search engines are not showing desired description for your site you have to still use meta tags to change description of your site .
