    Earning User points

It is very hard in forums to have a system of earning points to customize whatever for the user i.e: Avatar. Things that have gone wrong in my experience is per post you get spamming, people abuse the referral system and make fake usernames, and randomly getting points by visiting different pages is unfair. Anyone hava any suggestions? I've been struggling with this for a while.

    It just takes active moderators.

If you have active moderators, it limits the amount of spam.

As far as referrers, if you notice a bunch of different people using that IP, simply ban it.

And besides you can only register one username per email address AFAIK.

Well if you use the ole box of wierd lookin letters (technical term, haha) Then people can bypass it. That is how it is on OptiGamer. On any new sites i make I will do that. Also, some people have several email addresses. I have like 5. So it's easy to do that.

Okay. Point proven. So in our discussions in the staff forum of the site, that's one problem that keeps resurfacing. We really have to deal with it when the RPG comes out.

although it's kind of hard to ban people because of referring by IP.

I referred my younger brother because he is a young photoshop user and it wouldn't hurt for him to join but obviously since we live together we would have the same IP.

Also I live in an apartment suite and about 6 of us have split the cost of cable internet We all have the same IP's and if I were to refer them then using the IP check system wouldn't exactly work.

True that. But if you notice that there are a lot of users being referred by you from your IP you know something is fishy.

yeah that's why I don't want to refer any of my friends in my apartment except for my brother

I'll just find others, however finding people to participate in a forum is often difficult..

I have referred countless people, and only about three have actually stuck to it.
