    SiteUpTime

Some of you may already know of this resource, but for those of you who don't, http://www.siteuptime.com/ is a fantastic site that allows you to sign up for free and monitor your sites every 30/60 minutes and also calculates the uptime percentages and the number of outages detected. Did I mention it was free?
It will notify you when it detects downtime.
It is a really good resource for monitoring your website or webhost for uptime and downtime info.

I must admit, you are a man of many resources - a jack of all trades, as it were.

Just out of curiousity, what is this good for? If you notice that your site is down, all you can do is contact your host, which would already know about it and be working on it..

The main reason people would use siteuptime is to check the percentage of downtime your site has. Then you can compare that with your host's guarantees on uptime.

Heres an example page of stats: http://www.siteuptime.com/examplestats.php

The only problem with siteuptime is that it only monitors every 30 minutes (the free version) and if you have 2x 5 minutes of downtime it will show total of 1 hour which might not be within the SLA. This can't be used when requesting SLA credits with most of web hosting companies.

True, forgot about that part. I guess it'll cost you if you want quick checks. http://siteuptime.com/compare.php

I've been planning to create such a tool for a long time. Of course I'd like it to be free and I'd like it to check every 5 minutes so you can actually have usefull data. Maybe sometime in the near future...

What I do sometimes is simply browse my data center/hosts forums, and check if anyone is reporting site outages, etc. It's quite handy.

I think they just changed it to 1 site only. It's actually only a couple of dollars a month to get their more frequent monitor.

this is really useful for hosts that need to monitor their servers for uptime. When a server goes down. It is critical to get that notification and see that it gets remedied asap!
