Where have all the Avatars gone?

Just wondering why you turned off the avitars? I like using my own. Doesn't really matter if it is turned on but just curious as to why it is not on.

    Hi,
We never gave it much though, but we will reconsider it.

I can take em or leave em. I can definately see why they would want them off to save on the bandwidth they use.

Put one vote in the "can take it or leave it" category

If bandwidth is your concern, you could always allow avatars as long as they are remotely hosted... just disable uploads to your server while allowing avatars.

Man, avatars don't take up much bandwidth at all. Avatars have become a necessity on all forums, so get them!

Necessity? I think that's overstating it a bit, don't you think?

I don't think the success or failure of this board won't hinge on the avatar issue

No, they've come to the point of being a necessity. Lets see, if there's a forum that allows avatars and one that doesn't, guess which one most people will pick.

The one that doesn't. Seriously, I don't see this being a major issue.

So, let me get this straight. You're telling me that if this forum starts letting people use avatars, it'll become more popular then Web Hosting Talk JUST because of this site would allow avatars, and WHT doesn't?

Sorry, but I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this point I would think there are a lot more important factors to the success of a community then allowing avatars.

I never said there weren't other important factors, but I know that all it would do is benefit the site.

Not quite sure how, but I can see your side of the story now. We'll still have to agree to disagree though I don't think it'll matter either way.
