If I wanted to start coding actual programs, which would be the best to learn? I dont want to spend time learning VB even though its the easiest because it isnt as powerful but I was looking at trying C# because it is a cross between C++ and VB with the advantages from both. Would this be a good idea or should I just dive straight into C++? Would C# actually be easier because its more like PHP than C++ or is it the other way around because I already know PHP and whichever one is more similar would be easier.

You should start with either VB or C/C++.

Most other languages are kind of based on one of these two so they'd be a good starting point.

Once you learn c/C++ you can pick up most other languages quite quickly.

But the thing is, C# is based on both C++ and VB, so itd be like learning a bit of both at the same time, but it has limitations because it cant be used on computer that dont have the .net framework. Thats why Im wondering if I should just do C++ because itll be able to go onto different platforms or C# because its a mix of C++ and VB and easier to code and more efficient?

Learn C++ first then VB.

If you learn both of those languages you can pick up most any other language pretty quickly because most other languages are based on one of these two.

Another tip:

Get a book on programming logic before you learn a language.

It'll teach you the basics of programming without worrying about things like syntax.

It's kind of like learning a spoken (or written) language.

A sentence is still a sentence regardless of whether it's in french or english or russian or japanese.

Programming is much the same way.

An if statement or a switch/case block works the same way in C/C++ as it does in VB or JAVA or PERL.
